Meeting minutes
Attendance:
Pam Sherman, Steve, Turie, Phil, Jon and Marcus McCauley
We started the meeting by watching a video about regenerative grass fed dairy practices for 20 minutes. Thank you, Clark.
The new name we chose for the group is Working Soils Alliance of Boulder County
Our Purpose or mission statement is “ to restore the soils of Boulder county to health”
When developing our holistic context, we first defined the “whole” we are managing.
The whole we are managing is made up of 3 things: decision makers, resource base, and money.
Members of the Alliance are the decision makers.
Our resource base is made up of the lands in Boulder County, farmers, wildlife, livestock, voters and residence, extension agencies, hunters, naturalists, educators, environmental groups, government agencies and policy makers, tourists, customers and the community at large. The University.
Money can be generated by dues, donations, grants, subsidies, and taxes.
Our holistic context is based on the following: quality of life statements, Forms of Production, and Future Resource Base.
Our quality of life statements:
We want the Alliance to be a large group of active participants. We want to be in a continual state of education and educating. We want the support of local experts and farmers and the community and in turn to be supportive. We want to come together with joy. We are passionate and inspirational. We want a landscape where people, land and animals flourish as one. We want the soil to be full of life and continually building carbon. We want all the soils to be covered with diverse plant species. We want the farmers and growers to be able to make a good living. We are as healthy as the soil we tend.
Our forms of production:
We do outreach and education to promote healthy soil.
We create solutions to enhance our success. We generate creative ideas to generate money and support our vision.
Our future resource base:
We live in a place where our healthy soil sustains us, our community, and our kids and schools. We see all the ground covered with diverse complex ecosystems above and below the soil. Our aquifers and streams are full of clean water.
